4 Tips for Helping Your Child to Develop Their Own Unique Style

July 31st, 2010 No Comments   Posted in POP IDOL

Unfortunately, what is considered to be a normal child in today’s society is being just like every other child in the nation. Doing the same things, having the same interests, and wearing the same clothing as everyone else define being normal in the public eye. As most parents subscribe to this belief, we are raising a generation of followers with absolutely no individuality. Trend setting for the future is all but extinct, as we are teaching our children that the trends are what everyone else is doing. It is time that we turn the tables on this “clone” attitude and teach or children to be the leaders, the trendsetters for tomorrow. There are a number of very simple methods in doing this, but they all require starting early. Once a child’s personality is ingrained, they will spend the rest of their life being what they have been taught to be.

Start off by being a guide, not a controller. For example, if you are at the park with your baby or toddler, don’t control them. Keep them safe, of course, but act as a guide, not an owner. If the rest of the children are playing in the sand box and your child wants to play in the grass, let them. Do not make them play where you want them too simply because it is the norm, or because that is where the rest of the kids are playing.

Next, when buying the products you need to raise them, such as baby bottles or strollers, find something different. Instead of equipment with pictures of purple dinosaurs and cartoon characters, find stuff with scenic pictures, or panoramic scenes of countryside, anything that will spur the child’s imagination beyond the norm. Different colors are good too.

The same holds true for your baby’s room. Everyone has the same old pink, white, or baby blue room that is easy on the eyes and makes you and your baby want to go to sleep. Consider this. Paint a mural on the baby’s ceiling depicting a trail leading off into a forest, or perhaps a lighthouse with the ocean in the background. Something that is far more intricate than that of dull pink, white, or blue.

Lastly, there is the concept of the clothing. This may be the most important part of the equation, as it is what your child and the other children will notice first. Being the baby boomer generation or later, we are all found of a more punk type of look, a pop culture feel. We like this because it is different. It isn’t the average nine to five blue-collar appearance. It is, in one word, original. This is the same route we should take with our children. Dress them in punk pop culture band shirts, such as that of The Ramones, Billy Idol, or Sublime. As they begin to grow, you will begin to notice other children telling their parents that they want a shirt like your child has, simply because it is cool.

This is where the trend setting truly begins, where your child will become different and original, a leader instead of a mere follower. The great leaders, celebrities, and gurus of the future will be those that are taught from a young age that it is okay to take a chance, be original, and wander off the occasional beaten path.

Shopping for baby apparel & kids clothing? The baby clothing industry today is vast and caters to every taste. Add style to your baby with a designer t-shirt, a hat with a catchy phrase or a unique diaper bag. We carry black baby clothes, rock n roll children’s clothing & gothic infant apparel.

X Factor – The 100 Million Pound Show

While the UK may be in a recession (though possibly the tail end of it), some industries seem completely unaffected by it, more particularly entities within the industries. X Factor is one such show, though it has been affected by financial pressures, X Factor has been a show that seemingly has hit gold. Some estimates show that this show could net ITV around a £100 million. It seems very much like the two days the show is aired makes all the difference.

Advertising Interest

X Factor has not only captivated a large audience, it has also captivated the advertisers, they just can’t get enough when it comes to advertising during the run of this show. Advertisers seem to be willing to pay top end prices in order to get their advertising aired during the run of the show.

Income Generation and Advertising

At some point, this show will finish its run. At the time the run finishes, advertising revenues are expected to top £20 million. The X Factor, including its website and ITV2’s Xtra Factor is expected to generate a whopping £102.5 million for ITV in advertising income alone. The popularity of this show is bound to keep stirring up the advertisers, prompting them to spend their advertising dollar just in order to appear during this show. If this continues as expected, there is likely no problem with hitting their advertising income expectations and possibly spectacularly passing them.

Expenses as Compared to Income

Running such a show as X Factor is not an inexpensive proposition. In order to have popular individuals involved, the owners of this show spare no expense. For instance, it is said that Cowell is paid an appearance fee of around £125,000 per hour, this is ITV’s top rate. At Cowell’s insistence, the series was expanded from just a Saturday night programme, to take in Sunday night to do a ‘results show’. This means that ITV1 is screening over 40 hours total. This means that Cowell should earn somewhere around £5 million. These numbers are only an approximation; other sources put his income at even more.

Cowell is not only one that appears in the show, he is also a major owner and receives a format fee in addition to his other fees. These fees go through his company known as Syco.

What The Future Holds

The future looks sunny for this show and Mr. Cowell is a person with high aspirations and strong vision. He intends to take this hit format to America. With America’s love for reality shows, there is a high likelihood that his show and thereby his company will see a high profitability. Recession? What recession? X Factor ignores the recession in favour of a high profit margin and incredible popularity.

Is My Tree Sick?

July 22nd, 2010 No Comments   Posted in X-Factor

This may seem like a simple question, but it is not. Here’s the “X” factor that makes it hard to know if your tree is sick: trees have energy reserves. This means that when something afflicts your tree, the tree is going to fight a good battle without you ever knowing it. But, there are some subtle signs to look for. Here are the secrets you need to know.

Let’s start with the leaves; that’s the only thing most people take notice of anyway. The first thing to look for is color. Ninety nine percent of tree species are supposed to have a very dark, rich-green colored leaf. If the leaves aren’t green, they’re usually some shade of yellow-green or brown. Obviously brown is bad, this is serious. However, yellow is serious, too (often the precursor to brown). The “yellowing leaves” condition is generally referred to as chlorosis (klor-osis), which can be caused by many things. The next leaf characteristic to look for is leaf size. One of the first symptoms of many tree disorders / stresses is for the tree to shrink leaf size. This symptom can be trick for non-arborists. Healthy leave size varies from species to species and even from location to location. For example, a live oak located near lake Austin should have leaves about 2″ long, whereas, live oaks in the rocky slopes of the hill country should have leaves about 1 ¼” long. The last leaf characteristic to look for is leaf shape. Again, this one can be tricky for non-arborist because you’ll need to know what the leaves are supposed to look like.

The other place to look, besides the leaves, is at the ground. Very often trees main problems are that we have damaged their roots or rooting environment. Cutting roots, compacting soil and filling soil around tree trunks are the most common injuries. Most of the time these activities are related to some sort of construction activity. I doesn’t take much; 75% of tree roots are in the top 12 inches of soil, and they do extend all the way to the surface.

Determining if your tree is sick or stressed is just phase one. You’ll then need to make a proper diagnosis so that a comprehensive treatment program can be implemented. It’s always a good idea to hire an arborist if you really have a sick tree. Reading about something isn’t replacement for field experience. If you can’t afford to hire a tree guy for their service to provide treatments, coughing up $150 for a consulting fee will save you great amounts of time, money and frustration in the long run.
